In the last week of April 1991, NIRVANA journeyed down to Los Angeles to begin recording their major label debut, Nevermind. It was the band's own decision to have Butch Vig as their producer, choosing him over several other big-name producers, including Scott Litt, Don Dixon and David Briggs. Vig had built up a good rapport with the band through his work on the Smart sessions. "It was such a great experience working with him in Madison", recalls Krist Novoselic. "The label wanted us to work with other people, but it was kinda intimidating, and we were comfortable with Butch."
"At that point, I'd never done any work in Los Angeles", says Vig, "but I knew that was where the band wanted to work, and I knew of Sound City's reputation. The studio is renowned for it's large live room and vintage Neve 8028 console. I worked out a deal so it was cost-effective for us to go there. It was sight unseen. We just booked it and went in."
he band recorded this track live, with Cobain again providing a scratch vocal. It was quickly dropped after a guitar overdub was completed.
Kurt Cobain later gave the song to Courtney Love and Hole released their rendition on some formats of the '93 EP Beautiful Son, which featured a photo of a young Cobain as the front artwork. Hole also released the song on My Body, The Hand Grenade in '97, and played the song during their 1995.02.14 MTV Unplugged session.

With people living longer, Professor Lord explains her research into why people age differently, how much of immune aging is lifestyle related, and why exercise and caloric restriction can help us live healthier, for longer.
Professor Lord works in the field of geriatrics, studying the variability of ageing and life expectancy. While we all age throughout our lives, there is large inequality in how long people live for and whether or not they enjoy good health in the last years of their lives. In this talk, she looks at how our immune systems respond to getting old (immune ageing), frailty, the impact of diet, physical activity or inactivity, smoking and alcohol. Professor Lord explains the cellular mechanisms behind why our immune systems fail with age and struggle to stop many diseases, including autoimmune diseases and cancers, and asks - why do Japanese people tend to live longer, healthier lives?
Professor Lord also talks briefly about her own career in biomedical research, from an stressed postdoc with a young child to a professorship, and the importance of having a cunning plan...

Old age
Old age consists of ages nearing or surpassing the life expectancy of human beings, and thus the end of the human life cycle. Euphemisms and terms for old people include, old people (worldwide usage), seniors (American usage), senior citizens (British and American usage), older adults (in the social sciences), the elderly, and elders (in many cultures —including the cultures of aboriginal people).
Old people often have limited regenerative abilities and are more susceptible to disease, syndromes, and sickness than younger adults. The organic process of ageing is called senescence, the medical study of the aging process is gerontology, and the study of diseases that afflict the elderly is geriatrics. The elderly also face other social issues such as retirement, loneliness, and ageism.
The chronological age denoted as "old age" varies culturally and historically. Thus, old age is "a social construct" rather than a definite "biological stage".

Old Age (song)
"Old Age" is a song written and composed by Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, which was later re-written and re-recorded by his wife, Courtney Love, and her band Hole.
Although Nirvana's and Hole's renditions of the song share the same title and melody, the lyrics used in Hole's version are entirely different from those used in the original Nirvana recording.
History
"Old Age" was originally written and recorded by Cobain as a rough demo in 1991 during the Nevermind sessions.
In November 1992, Hole recorded an acoustic version of the song, released in April 1993 as a b-side to their single "Beautiful Son", and at this point, their version was the only known version in existence. Although Hole's rendition of "Old Age" retains the melody and chorus structure of Cobain's original song, the lyrics were completely re-written by Love. Another Hole version of the song, with alternate lyrics, was recorded for a radio session in March 1993.
In October 1993, while recording Live Through This, a more polished studio version of "Old Age" was recorded by Hole, with slightly different lyrics from the first two versions, a different ending, and an interlude accompanied by an organ, but it did not make it onto the album. The interlude for the song, however, was attached to the beginning of the track "Credit in the Straight World", which was included on Live Through This. A full version of this recording of "Old Age" was eventually released as a b-side to the single, "Violet" in 1995, and again in 1997 on the compilation album, My Body, the Hand Grenade.

In the last week of April 1991, NIRVANA journeyed down to Los Angeles to begin recording their major label debut, Nevermind. It was the band's own decision to have Butch Vig as their producer, choosing him over several other big-name producers, including Scott Litt, Don Dixon and David Briggs. Vig had built up a good rapport with the band through his work on the Smart sessions. "It was such a great experience working with him in Madison", recalls Krist Novoselic. "The label wanted us to work with other people, but it was kinda intimidating, and we were comfortable with Butch."
"At that point, I'd never done any work in Los Angeles", says Vig, "but I knew that was where the band wanted to work, and I knew of Sound City's reputation. The studio is renowned for it's large live room and vintage Neve 8028 console. I worked out a deal so it was cost-effective for us to go there. It was sight unseen. We just booked it and went in."
he band recorded this track live, with Cobain again providing a scratch vocal. It was quickly dropped after a guitar overdub was completed.
Kurt Cobain later gave the song to Courtney Love and Hole released their rendition on some formats of the '93 EP Beautiful Son, which featured a photo of a young Cobain as the front artwork. Hole also released the song on My Body, The Hand Grenade in '97, and played the song during their 1995.02.14 MTV Unplugged session.

With people living longer, Professor Lord explains her research into why people age differently, how much of immune aging is lifestyle related, and why exercise and caloric restriction can help us live healthier, for longer.
Professor Lord works in the field of geriatrics, studying the variability of ageing and life expectancy. While we all age throughout our lives, there is large inequality in how long people live for and whether or not they enjoy good health in the last years of their lives. In this talk, she looks at how our immune systems respond to getting old (immune ageing), frailty, the impact of diet, physical activity or inactivity, smoking and alcohol. Professor Lord explains the cellular mechanisms behind why our immune systems fail with age and struggle to stop many diseases, including autoimmune diseases and cancers, and asks - why do Japanese people tend to live longer, healthier lives?

In the last week of April 1991, NIRVANA journeyed down to Los Angeles to begin recording their major label debut, Nevermind. It was the band's own decision to have Butch Vig as their producer, choosing him over several other big-name producers, including Scott Litt, Don Dixon and David Briggs. Vig had built up a good rapport with the band through his work on the Smart sessions. "It was such a great experience working with him in Madison", recalls Krist Novoselic. "The label wanted us to work with other people, but it was kinda intimidating, and we were comfortable with Butch."
"At that point, I'd never done any work in Los Angeles", says Vig, "but I knew that was where the band wanted to work, and I knew of Sound City's reputation. The studio is renowned for it's large live room and vintage Neve 8028 console. I worked out a deal so it was cost-effective for us to go there. It was sight unseen. We just booked it and went in."
he band recorded this track live, with Cobain again providing a scratch vocal. It was quickly dropped after a guitar overdub was completed.
Kurt Cobain later gave the song to Courtney Love and Hole released their rendition on some formats of the '93 EP Beautiful Son, which featured a photo of a young Cobain as the front artwork. Hole also released the song on My Body, The Hand Grenade in '97, and played the song during their 1995.02.14 MTV Unplugged session.

Old age
Old age consists of ages nearing or surpassing the life expectancy of human beings, and thus the end of the human life cycle. Euphemisms and terms for old people include, old people (worldwide usage), seniors (American usage), senior citizens (British and American usage), older adults (in the social sciences), the elderly, and elders (in many cultures —including the cultures of aboriginal people).
Old people often have limited regenerative abilities and are more susceptible to disease, syndromes, and sickness than younger adults. The organic process of ageing is called senescence, the medical study of the aging process is gerontology, and the study of diseases that afflict the elderly is geriatrics. The elderly also face other social issues such as retirement, loneliness, and ageism.
The chronological age denoted as "old age" varies culturally and historically. Thus, old age is "a social construct" rather than a definite "biological stage".
